Oh How Beautiful It Is to Rest - Introducing a New Painting

Sometimes you stumble upon exactly what you need, right when you need it most.

A few years ago, for me, it was a stack of original Moomin comics in an Airbnb in Brighton. I don’t even like comics. And yet they hooked me instantly—with their quirky humor and the permission to just be yourself. (The meme made me smile.)

The tricky thing about resting

When I think of the Moomins, I think of a place where no one has to explain themselves. Everyone is a little odd, very lovable, and surprisingly at ease with who they are.

And somehow, it’s always also about pausing. About being. About resting.

I don't know about you, but resting doesn’t come easily to me.

I sit down—and get back up moments later. Just need to “quickly” grab something, check something, take care of something. Or I don’t even sit down in the first place.

Oh How Beautiful It Is to Rest, my new available piece, grew out of that exact longing—to be able to truly enjoy rest. And suddenly, intuitively, these figures appeared that reminded me a lot of Moomin and his gang.

The painting is an invitation to consciously invite rest.

Not as a side thing. Not while scrolling on your phone.

But to really be there and notice: How am I actually doing right now?

And yes—sometimes that’s when the mind starts spinning.

Sometimes feelings come up that we usually ignore.

There's room for that, too.

Rest doesn’t mean that everything suddenly feels pleasant.

Rest means sitting with yourself.

And rest looks different for everyone. It doesn’t always have to be tea on the couch. Depending on whether we’re physically, mentally, or emotionally exhausted, we need different kinds of recovery.

Maybe it’s yoga.

Maybe strength training.

Maybe laughing, playing, closeness.

Maybe just being alone for a moment.

the piece is currently on display at Café Alma in Leipzig (Germany)

Go looking for what truly feels nourishing.

And who knows—maybe rest day will become your favorite day someday.

Whatever it may be:

I wholeheartedly wish that you

  • take a moment to check in with yourself,

  • accept yourself kindly just as you are right now

  • and give yourself time for what you need.
